Projects

I am a member of the Matheon project B20 "Optimization of Gas Transport".
Mathematically, the combination of discrete decisions on the configuration of a gas transport network, the nonlinear equations describing the physics of gas, and the uncertainty in demand and supply yield large-scale and highly complex stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear programs. The goal of this project is to extend the framework SCIP for the solution of nonconvex mixed-integer nonlinear programs with chance constraints.

I am a member of the project "Linear, Integer, and Constraint Programming" at ZIB.
We develop, maintain, and provide the ZIB Optimization Suite which includes the modeling language ZIMPL, the simplex LP-solver SoPlex, and the branch-cut-and-price framework and constraint integer programming solver SCIP, integrating CP and MIP.

Further, I am an associated member of the IBM/ZIB Cooperation, the Siemens/ZIB Cooperation, and the Advanced Solver Technology for Supply Chain Management project, a cooperation with SAP.
I am one of the maintainers of the MIPLIB2010.

Until May 2009, I was a member of the Matheon project B12 "Symmetries in Integer Programming".
State-of-the-art IP-solving tools like SCIP rather suffer from the weak relaxations yielded by symmetric models than benefit from the additional structure those provide. In this project, we analyzed the polyhedral structures of symmetries and developed algorithms which handle both: exploring symmetry and breaking it.
