############## This file describes how to install and use the ############### ############# CIPvmware virtual machine (VM) on your computer ############## You already downloaded the file CIPvmware.zip -------- Installation ------------- 1. Extract (unzip) this file to your favorite location (mydirectory). You will need at least 6GB free disk space. 2. You will need a VMware Player which can be downloaded from http://www.vmware.com/download/player/player_reg.html (There, you have to specify your host-platform - either linux or windows.) (Note that your linux distribution might already provide a VMware player.) We also provide the VMware Player on the DVD. Windows: run: VMware-Player-*.exe Suse Linux: type as root: rpm -Uhv VMware-Player-*.rpm Debian: type as root: sh VMware-Player-*.bundle Afterwards you should find the VMware Player in your system menu. 3. Install the VMware player. 4. Start the VMware player and "Open" the virtual machine mydirectory/CIPvmware/CIPvmware.vmx. You might be asked whether you have "moved" or "copied" the machine. YOU HAVE TO ANSWER "I moved it" ! Now a VM with a Ubuntu 11.04 (32 Bits) should boot. Your user name within the VM is 'cip'. Your home folder is /home/cip and the password is 'ws2011'. -------- Material ------------- In the virtual machine, we have already installed SCIP, SoPlex, and ZIMPL which you will need for the exercises. -------- Some hints for Mac users ------------- We have not tested it but you can try one of the following: There is a trial version of VMware Fusion (if not already installed): http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/ It shoud also be possible to open VMware images using the Virtualbox player: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
