The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) operates web pages with information about its scientific work and services, public relations and as orientation for visitors as a time and location-independent offer.
In order to detect safety-relevant events, for each access to the web server www.zib.de the access data are logged. ZIB’s web server is operated by the department IT services.
The log data set in question includes:
- IP address of the requesting computer
- Date and time of the request
- Access method/function required by the requesting computer
- Input values transmitted by the requesting computer (e.g. file name)
- Access status of the web server (file transfer, file not found, command not implemented, etc.)
- URL from which the file and/or the desired function was requested
- Browser ID
Purpose of the Logging
The stored data is used for identification purposes and to keep track of inadmissible access attempts and accesses on the web servers.
The logged data will be stored for a period of 4 weeks and will then be deleted unless a web attack that has been detected results in civil or criminal prosecution of the attacker.
The data will be evaluated by the responsible persons in the department IT services.
The only purpose of cookies set by ZIB is the client-side storage of user-related configuration settings for the duration of the session (e.g. preferred language, font size).
