In compliance with the mission the department IT Service (ITS) in the division computer science at Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB) necessarily is in contact with a lot of companies and institutes beyond the ZIB.
In some cases it has turned out as reasonable to use the competencies of the department ITS to establish difference forms of cooperations with some of these companies and institutes.

ITS can discharge his mission of service for IT infrastructure at ZIB in a better way. Partners can benefit from cooperation by knowledge, practical experience and possibilities of the ZIB to validate new technologies under test and production environments.

Oracle COE
A cooperation of outstanding importance is the Oracle Center of Excellence (COE) "Data- and storage management" at ZIB with the partners Oracle and LSI. One goal of the COE ist to encourage the communication between scientific institutions in germany on behalf of data and storage managment.

Long-Term Archiving
Cooperating scientific institutions are using our infrastructure for long-term archiving of irreplaceable data. For this purpose we give users access to virtual machines on powerful servers which are able to access capacity on our data storage.
Beyond that we are working accordingly to the scientific tasks defined in the goals of the cooperation agreements.

Education Computer Sciene
As a partner company of the Berufsakademie (BA), a faculty of the Berlin School of Economics and Law the department ITS performs the practical part of the education over three years of study.

IT for schools
For the working group BICS (advise center for IT education and utilisation of computer in schools) at LISUM (state agency for schools and media Berlin-Brandenburg) we drive the infrastructure for their hosts at ZIB which have a central meaning for schools in Berlin-Brandenburg.
