Themes of this COE are especially data management (reliable, distributed file systems) and storage managment (high performance online storage, SAN technology and archive storage).

Oracle and ZIB have identified common range of topics and interests and therefore decieded to continue the former Sun Center of Excellence (COE) for „Data and storage management"  at Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB).

The continuation of the COE established in 2008 is also an expression of the fact that the work was considered by both sides to be successful.
