Sun and ZIB have identidied common range of topics and interests and therefore founded a Center of Excellence (COE) for „Data and storage management"  at Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB). Themes of this COE are especially data management (reliable, distributed file systems) and storage managment (high performance online storage, SAN technology and archive storage).

The ZIB will perform events about data and storage managment for transfering knowledge between scientific institutes. The goal is to vitalize the technical communication about questions of data storage between the scientific institutes in Germany.

At 05.11.2008 the Sun Center of Excellence "data- and storage management was opened at Zuse-Institut Berlin" in an opening ceremony.

Lectures from Sun, LSI and ZIB pointed out the ideas about the handling of the constanly growing amount of data. In the timing of the event there was enough room between the lectures to give participants the chance for technical and cooperative  communication in an enjoyable  ambience.
