The research and development work at the ZIB institute focuses on fields such as Numerical Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science. They comprise

• theoretical analysis of mathematical models, which describe complex scientific, technical as well as socio-economic processes,
• the development of efficient algorithms for simulation or optimization of such models,
• the transfer of algorithms into efficient computer codes.

The development of theories and algorithms, the test of algorithms in efficient computer systems and of mathematical models concerning their practical usability are effectively combined.
