Strong room of the tape library
One of several unique features of data management in the ZIB is the placement of the entire tape libraries in a fireproof vault.
All of the tape robot archive, so of course the tape cartridges, and ultimately all long term data are located in a vault.
This safe designed according to EN 1047-2 can withstand extreme heat
for long hours, without rising a critical indoor temperature for the magnetic tapes . In addition, in the event of an alarm the safe is automatically sealed and completely flooded with extinguishing gas.
The vault primarily designed as a protection against fire is of course also a safeguard against any form of manipulation or sabotage of the data archive. Various sensors provide a monitoring of access, which can also trigger an alarm.
