Hyperthermia Thermoseeds
Optimal Positions of Thermoseeds in Hyperthermia
Description
In hyperthermia treatment of prostate cancer a direct application of thermoseeds in the cancerous area leads to an immediate focus of heat. An externally applied electromagnetic field induces heat within the seeds, made of ferromagnetic material. The selfregulating behaviour of this material limits the attainable temperature to the Curie point (approx. 53°C), such that overheating will be avoided. A well balanced temperature distribution is essential for an effective hyperthermia treatment and will be achieved by an optimal placement of the seeds. Further information is available in the detailed project description.
