The Virtual Tank Utility in Europe
The goal of VIRTUE is to create a Virtual Basin by integrating advanced numerical fluid analysis tools to tackle multi-criteria hydrodynamic performance optimization of ships by simulation based methods. The project aims to complement model testing in real basins in close cooperation with the marine industry. Within the project the hydrodynamics for the computation of ship resistance, seakeeping and ship stability, ship maneuvering and cavitation effects at the ship propeller are investigated. For the visualization and data analysis of the computed flow fields, methods are developed with a focus of the specific needs in ship design and ship development.
