EuroVis 2009 is the eleventh annual Visualization Symposium jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee.

Author Instructions for Final Papers

Please follow the recommendations of the reviewer and the instruction below in order to produce the final version of your contribution. It will be published in the printed conference proceedings as well as in the Digital Library of Eurographics.

The paper needs to be prepared in the Eurographics style. For the final version of your paper it is strongly recommended that you use the following LaTeX2e template “EGauthorGuidelines-EuroVis09-fin.tex”.
Relevant style and class files for LaTeX2e are available here. Please make sure that you are using this LaTeX-Package (which became available in Feb 2009). The fontsize of the bibliography has become smaller than in the original version used for initial submission in Dec 2008.

Of course, you should now also include the authors’ names, using the “\author” command (see the example source).

Should you intend to use other word processors please reproduce as closely as possible the style and layout in the sample output file

The proceedings will be printed in colour troughout, therefore no color plates are required.

When you include color images into your paper please make sure that the images do *not* make use of transparent backgrounds. Hint: check your raster image and change the transparent background to
the color white before converting to EPS and including into the document.

Please make sure that the page count of your final paper does not exceed the page count of your submitted paper.

As our production process is purely electronic, it is necessary that we receive your contribution as high quality PDF-documents (if you cannot provide PDF, Postscript is also acceptable). Please take care of the following:

  • you can use “Acrobat Distiller” or “dvips/ps2pdf” (do not use ”PDFWriter”) to create your PDF
  • if using “Distiller” choose a profile that offers high-resolution and uses only lossless compression. We recommend to download and install the version of the “CMW” Adobe Acrobat Distiller job options file appropriate for your operating system and version of Acrobat from here in the “(Operating System)/Applications/Distiller Settings” folder. The “CMW” job options file embeds all typefaces and does not downsample or subsample images when creating the PDF document.
  • if using “dvips/ps2pdf” the following flags should be used:dvips -t a4 -Ppdf -G0 -o final.ps final.dvi[for GhostScript 7.x]
    ps2pdf -dMaxSubsetPct=100 -dCompatibilityLevel=1.3 \
    -dSubsetFonts=true -dEmbedAllFonts=true \
    -dAutoFilterColorImages=false \
    -dAutoFilterGrayImages=false \
    -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode \
    -dGrayImageFilter=/FlateEncode \
    -dMonoImageFilter=/FlateEncode final.ps final.pdf

    [for GhostScript 8.x]
    ps2pdf -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -dCompatibilityLevel=1.3 \
    -dAutoFilterColorImages=false \
    -dAutoFilterGrayImages=false \
    -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode \
    -dGrayImageFilter=/FlateEncode \
    -dMonoImageFilter=/FlateEncode \
    –dDownsampleColorImages=false \
    -dDownsampleGrayImages=false final.ps final.pdf

  • if using pdflatex, compression and font settings are all correct
  • make sure that embedded images are of sufficient resolution (>= 300 dpi). As a rule of thumb the resolution of your images must not be less than 12 times the lengths and widths measured in mm in order to be faithfully reproduced.
  • only use vector-fonts (no bitmapped fonts) in your paper (the provided LaTeX-styles take care of this)
  • embed all fonts in full (i.e., at 100%)
  • do not use any Asian fonts with a different encoding.

When you have prepared your paper according to the above guidelines, then please upload it as a PDF file or a ZIP/GZIP-compressed archive to:

http://egmcp1.cgv.tugraz.at/SRM_EUROVIS09/submissions/incoming/paperxxxx
(xxxx = your paperID)

Please additionally upload your LaTeX Source Code including all figures (zipped) to the server. This is important for the workflow of Blackwell Publishing.

You can send additional multimedia files in a ZIP/GZIP-compressed archive, see below.

Of course, your final version can contain hyperlinks throughout the whole document and you may attach multimedia elements to it. In case you do attach multimedia elements the hyperlinks must use relative path information to a subdirectory of the current directory.

Electronic contribution archives may include:

  • multimedia files (mpeg, quicktime, avi, …)
  • high resolution figures
  • software for demonstration purposes
