In the Parallel and Distributed Systems department we design scalable, fault-tolerant algorithms for massively parallel high-performance computers and Internet-based systems. One research focus is on the management of distributed data, a problem which is becoming increasingly important in our interconnected and mobile world.
Motivated by the increased operating cost of high-performance computers, we investigate the use of many-core CPUs, graphic processors (GPGPUs) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) as energy-efficient alternatives to conventional processors in high-performance computing.
