GlenoidRecon

3D Reconstruction of Glenoid Rim Defects

div>Description

During a luxation of the shoulder joint the humeral head jumps out of the socket (glenoid) and resides in front of it. Due to the strong muscular system at the shoulder and the narrow articular capsule the dislocated head gets strongly pressed against the glenoid. This leads to a wear of cartilage and - after multiple luxations - even to a severe damage of the bearing area. Minimal invasive surgical procedures such as arthroscopy can be used to repair the loss of cartilage and bone. The goal is to restore the initial anatomy, but the geometry prior to trauma remains unknown. The goal of this project is to establish a method which can be used to reconstruct the pathological glenoid according to its natural shape, thus regaining its stabilizing function within the shoulder joint. Further information is available in the detailed project description.
