WA 29/18

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin. The division "Mathematics for Life and Materials Sciences" is offering a

research position (f/m)

reference code: WA 29/18
pay grade E 13 TV-L Berlin (100%).

The position is offered starting at the earliest possible date and will be a fixed-term contract for 2 years with the option to be extended.

Tasks

Together with one of the leading companies in the fashion industry, the possibilities of innovative fit analysis for garments will be investigated. In several closely related research projects at the ZIB, aspects of geometric modelling of garments, modelling of material properties and numerical simulation of deformation, as well as the realistic visualization of textiles are investigated. The research is carried out in close coordination and cooperation with a development team of the cooperation partner.

For geometric modelling of garments for subsequent simulation and visualization, the following tasks have to be solved:

  • Model-supported geometric reconstruction of garments from 3D imaging data

  • Conversion of the geometry into problem-specific data structures for the numerical simulation, as well as interactive manipulation and visualization.

We expect communication and teamwork skills, creativity, as well as a high degree of independence and commitment. We offer a challenging professional environment with excellent equipment and a friendly working atmosphere, as well as opportunities and support for further qualification for scientists at all stages of their careers. Scientific publications at the highest international level are our goal. Participation in international and national conferences is welcome and possible.

  • very good knowledge and skills in software development (C++, Python)

  • Experience in several of the following areas: Image processing, geometrical modelling, meshing, computer-aided design

  • willingness and ability to analyse scientific publications
