Welcome to the LicFactory

The LicFactory is a small interactive application that allows you to experiment with the Line Integral Convolution (LIC) technique. It has been developed for the Siggraph '97 Texture Sythesis with Line Integral Convolution.

LicFactory is written mainly in Java. Therefore it is possible to run it directly via the Internet. Click here to start the applet. Due to a bug in netscape's java-engine, this will not work with netscape 2.x/3.x on SGI - the resulting images will be corrupted. Use netscape 4.x instead.
Notice that the Java version is an order of magnitude slower than native C-Code and currently colored textures are not supported by the applet version. Click here for some technical information and download instructions.

LIC takes an input image and a vector field and produces an output image by convolving the input along the field lines:

LIC can be used to visualize 2D vector fields in scientific visualization or simply to generate fancy images.

With the LicFactory you can create images like these:

Click on them to get step by step instructions.

LicFactory has been developed by the Visualization group of ZIB.
