Background
I studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the Technische Universität Berlin. Since July 1994 I am working in the optimization departement headed by Martin Grötschel at the Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin. My major research interests are in combinatorial optimization and integer programming applied to the design of telecommunication networks.
Vodafone Innovationspreis
In 2001, I received the Innovationspreis of the Vodafone Stiftung für Forschung .
Spin-off atesio
Together with three colleagues, we established the ZIB spin-off company atesio in June 2000. Andreas Eisenbläter and I act as managing directors. The focus of atesio is on design and implementation of sophisticated algorithms for various (technical) planning and configuration tasks in the telecommunications industry. Examples out of atesio's portfolio are:
- Architecture (aggregation, backone, service creation points) of next-generation networks (NGN)
- Design and planning of fiber-to-the-X networks (FTTx)
- Configuration and planning of GSM/UMTS/LTE networks (Site configuration, site selection)
- Cost-minimal design of survivable backbone networks (SDH, WDM, ATM, MPLS)
- Location and routing area planning in GSM networks
- Design of mobile backhaul networks (BSC-/RNC-areas) in GSM/UMTS networks
DFG Research Center Matheon
I am a member of the DFG Research Center Matheon "Mathematics for key technologies: Modelling, simulation, and optimization of real-world processes". Within the Application Area B: Traffic and Communication Network, I am heading jointly with Martin Grötschel the project B3 "Integrated Planning of Multi-level / Multi-layer Networks ".
