This center of excellence especially focuses on data management (reliable, distributed file systems) and storage managment (high performance online storage, SAN technology and archive storage).

Oracle and ZIB have identified common topics and interests and decided to continue the former Sun Center of Excellence (COE) for „Data and storage management"  at Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB). The continuation of the COE - which was established in 2008 - is also an expression of its success and mutual benefit.
