9. Consulting Experience

I have consulted (together with my research group) various German companies and government agencies. Among these are the following companies/institutions:

Siemens (München): VLSI-Design (routing, placement, via minimization),
Siemens Nixdorf (München): design of main frame computers,
Siemens Nixdorf (Augsburg): machine scheduling, control of NC-machines, production planning,
Bell Communications Research (Morristown, NJ): layout of fiber optic communication networks,
Grob (Mindelheim): flexible manufacturing, efficient design of transfer lines,
BASF (Ludwigshafen): lot sizing and machine scheduling,
Verkehrsbetriebe Passau: scheduling of dial-a-ride traffic systems,
Norwegian Telecom (Kjeller, Norway): capacity planning of telecommunication networks,
BZA and Senat für Soziales (Berlin): bus scheduling for the transportation of disabled people,
Landesbausparkasse (Münster): econometric models of banks,
FAW (Ulm): job scheduling with precedence constraints.
Cray Research, Inc.: combinatorial algorithms for massively parallel systems.

Project with the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires and the Universidad Nacional de Rosario on vehicle routing supported by the Federal Minister for Research and Technology within the framework of a bilateral cooperation with Argentina (since 1993).

Project with Firma Siemens (München) ``Set partitioning approaches for transportation system'' (since 1994).

Project with HanseCom (subsidiary of Hamburger Hochbahn AG) on the optimization of vehicle routing in public transport sponsored by the Federal Minister of Research and Technology (since 1994).

In addition, I was the principal investigator of the project ``Combinatorial Optimization'' of the Schwerpunkt ``Applied Optimization and Control'' sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and have received further grants from the DFG, the Stiftung Volkswagenwerk, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung.
