The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin. The department of “Numerical Mathematics” is offering a PostDoc-position within the research group „Computational Molecular Design”:

The position is offered at the earliest possible date until December 31st, 2020 (end of project).

Job description:

The project „The spatio-temporal modelling of mechanisms underlying pain relief via the μ-opioid receptor“ is part of the excellence cluster MATH+. The area of responsibility includes:

  • development and application of extremely efficient numerical methods for the simulation of large biomolecular systems,
  • collaboration with experimentalists and clinical research groups on the receptor signaling mechanisms (in particular of the μ-opioid receptor) regarding changes in its chemical environment,
  • application of new mathematical methods for the efficient derivation of kinetic parameters from the simulation
  • modeling of G-protein coupled receptors.


  • Doctoral degree in mathematics or a natural science, such as structural biochemistry, molecular physics

Do you ideally also possess the following qualification?

  • experience with modeling and simulation for molecular systems (e.g. with GROMACS)
  • ability to interdisciplinary communication
  • very good knowledge of English
  • expertise in using supercomputers
