The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin. We conduct research and development in applied mathematics and computer science as well as the analysis and processing of complex data in conjunction with high-performance computing.

for a period of 2 years with the option of extension. 

The Project 

For the BMBF funded research campus MODAL we are looking for a candidate for the development and implementation of an IT infrastructure and the necessary algorithms for the analysis of related scientific data. This project is focused on the information service swMATH.org, which is a repository indexing over 40.000 mathematical research software items. 

The goal is to develop and establish new and innovative strategies to make mathematical research software accessible and usable for the scientific community according to the so-called FAIR principles. This will be done together with the mathematical community to support the visibility and impact of developing and sharing research software as integral part of the creative scientific process. 

Your Tasks 

  • Develop and implement the technical infrastructure needed to realize and integrate services for the research community within the swMATH context. 
  • Develop and implement workflows for data integration and processing. 
  • Perform data-collection, curation and integration in the context of swMATH. 
  • Collaborate with the mathematical research community to facilitate the recognition of research software as scientific achievement. 
  • Investigate, design, and implement solutions for ensuring long-term availability of mathematical research data. 

Your Profile 

  • Education: We require an above average Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related field. 
  • Experience and Knowledge: We expect significant experience in collaborative software development in PHP or Python, hands-on experience with web-services and real-world data analysis, experience in professional or Open-Source software development is a plus. 
  • Languages: You need to have excellent communications skills (writing, speaking) and working proficiency in English. 
  • Personality: We are looking for a strong team player with affinity for research and a focus to see things working in practice. We expect methodical and conceptual strength and creativity.
