Are you interested in an exciting student job in applied research? Then the ZIB is the place to be! Become part of our international team!

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under the public law of the state of Berlin. In our research group "Computational Diagnosis and Therapy Planning", part of the division "Visual and Data-Centric Computing", we – among others - work on problems in the domains of medical image analysis, anatomical modeling, and shape analysis. Our focus lies in the development of novel computer-assisted solutions with practical relevance in conjunction with efficient algorithms and automation. We are looking for a master's student who is highly interested in computer science for medical applications. This offer is initially limited to a period of 12 months, with the possibility of an extension.

Student Assistant (f/m/d)
Reference Code: SH 15/23

Project Description
In a collaborative research together with the oral- and maxillofacial surgery department at Charité Berlin, we are investigating computational methods for improving diagnosis and surgical treatment. For a project, in which we analyze the morphology of jaw bones, we are looking for student assistance with data preparation and analysis.
At ZIB, you will learn how to process medical image data, how to segment bony structures in tomographic data using machine learning approaches, how to analyze variation in shape of anatomical structures, how to analyze high-dimensional data, and most importantly, how to work in an interdisciplinary research team.
Within the scope of the project work, there is the possibility to get involved in an exciting topic area for a possible master's thesis.

Your Tasks

  • Management of project data,
  • Pre-processing, segmentation, and analysis of medical images,
  • Assistance in geometrical shape modeling and data analysis.

Your Profile

  • Master’s student in computer science or any related study,
  • Interest in medical image processing and medical data analysis,
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research with clinicians,
  • Knowledge and experience with programming in Python,
  • Basic knowledge in data analysis tools such as Pandas or Geomstats ,
  • Ability to work in a team and independently in a goal-oriented manner,
