The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under the public law of the state of Berlin. Within the Mathematical Optimization and Scientific Information, the department of Mathematical Optimization, the research group Energy Network Optimization is offered from 1st of September 2020 until December 31st, 2021.

Within a research project, the successful candidate will develop and analyze methods for forecasting gas flows in gas transmission systems.
Your tasks
- Complex data analysis including descriptive analytics (data mining, statistical analysis)
- Develop and implement high-quality forecast models (predictive analytics)
- Conduct comparative research on forecasting methods for gas flows
- Validate the models based on realistic industry data
We expect secure communication and teamwork skills, a high level of independence and commitment, as well as the competence and willingness to write scientific publications on an international level.
Your profile
- Excellent Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, or related disciplines
- A strong background in applied mathematics and data analysis
- Experience in forecasting high-dimensional time series in energy networks, preferably in the natural gas domain
- Good programming skills in at least one language and proficient knowledge of state-of-the-art statistical tools packages (e.g., matlab, R)
