Algorithmic Intelligence aims at computing “smart” decisions. The A²IM department is applying advanced AI methods from Mathematical Optimization and Machine Learning to explore new smart algorithmic solutions for real-world problems. Our research is concerned, in particular, with better planning, extension, and control of vital and complex infrastructure networks.
We are developing decomposition-based parallel methods for solving large-scale block-structured optimization problems that arise in data-driven, real-world case studies for sustainable network infrastructures. These problems feature linear constraints, binary and continuous variables, and a linear, quadratic, stochastic, or multi-criteria objective function, where the blocks include network structures.
The department works in close cooperation with the chair for Software and Algorithms for Discrete Optimization at TU Berlin.
