Once a year, the workshop “Mathematische Ökonomie und Optimierung in der Energiewirtschaft“ is organized by the Austrian Society for Operations Research (ÖGOR). The focus is on mathematical optimization, statistics and artificial intelligence methods in the context of energy economics. During the workshop, the Prof. Wolfgang Polasek Junior Researcher Prize is awarded to the best presentation.

This year, the prize is shared between Jan-Patrick Clarner from Zuse Institute Berlin for the presentation “Holistic and Multi-Objective Optimization for Expansion Planning of Sustainable District Heating Systems” and Carlo Corinaldesi from TU Vienna. The presentation comprised hierarchical and multi-objective optimization methods that are developed within the project MOTIF, in the framework of a real-world district heating expansion problem in Berlin.
