The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under the public law of the State of Berlin. Within the research group “Interactive Optimization and Learning” of the department “AI in Society, Science, and Technology (AIS2T)” we are offering a 

Research Position – PostDoc (f/m/d)

Pay Grade: E14 TV-L Berlin (100%). 

Starting January 1st, 2022, this vacancy offered is a fixed-term contract until December 31st, 2022. 

Background 

The group is interested in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Machine Learning. Located at the intersection of mathematics and computer science, our aim is to develop new methodologies (e.g., new optimization and learning algorithms), work on combining learning and decision-making, as well as design AI Systems for real-world deployment in various application contexts. 

Job description 

Research work on discrete-continuous optimization methods and their connection to machine learning. 

Requirements 

  • Excellent PhD degree in mathematics, computer science, or related disciplines 
  • Strong background in the development and application of tools in convex analysis, fixed-point theory, approximation theory, splitting algorithms, and monotone operator theory 
  • Knowledge of discrete optimization and computational mixed-integer programming 
  • Good programming skills, ideally C, C++, or related languages 
  • Good command of written and spoken English 
  • Applicants are expected to be highly motivated, self-reliant, and team-oriented 

We expect excellent communication and a high level of independence and commitment, as well as the competence and willingness to write scientific publications on an international level.
