The page is an non official translation of the Praktikumsrichtlinien - mathematische Studiengänge vom 8.12.2014
For the amount of at least 140 working hours (equivalent to 4 weeks of full time work) 6 ECTS will be granted (140 working hours + 40 h for application and writing of the report). For the amount of 70 working hours (equivalent to 2 weeks of full time work) 3 ECTS will be granted (70 working hours + 20 h for application and writing of the report). The duration of the internship may exceed four weeks, but 6 ECTS are the maximum nonetheless. If the amount of worked hours cannot be judged the Prüfungsobmann/Prüfungsobfrau will decide about the granted ECTS.
The internship can be carried out in any company that is a possible future employer of graduates of mathematical courses of study. Part of the working activities during the internship should have an easily recognisable reference to fields of activity of mathematicians. Jobs at the university may be accepted as an internship if the requirements mentioned above are fulfilled, with the exception of jobs including teaching (especially tutor jobs). In case of doubt the Prüfungsobmann/Prüfungsobfrau has to approve in advance.
The student has to write a report about the internship. The length of the report should range between 5-7 pages DIN-A4 (in case of a 70-hour-internship 3-5 pages), without diagrams, drawings, pictures or similar. The font size has to be 12 pt, line spacing 1.5 (compare DIN 1421 and 1422). Papers that have been written during the internship cannot be a regular part of the report but can be attached to it as an appendix. The report has to be submitted to the Prüfungsobmann/Prüfungsobfrau together with the internship certificate.
The final evaluation of the internship is based upon the report. The report has to be submitted in German or English.
The internship certificate has to be written by the company and requires the following information:
The internship may also be absolved outside of Germany, but these guidelines have to be fulfilled. The report and the internship certificate must be submitted in German or in English.
These guidelines are valid for the following courses of study: Bachelor: mathematics, economic mathematics, techno mathematics; Master: mathematics, economic mathematics, techno mathematics, scientific computing.
