Current projects

I am currently working on the EnergyLab project of the Research Campus MODAL. In the Prescriptive Systems group, we deal with the problem of dynamically controlling a large-scale gas transmission network. Thus, given the current state of the network and forecasted information about future gas transport quantities, we have to decide about the operation modes of network elements like compressors or valves while respecting the gas physics in the network as well as the regulatory framework. The main challenges of the problem are the non-linearities describing the physical gas flow in pipe networks and the large number of discrete decisions leading to great combinatorial complexity. Since the goal is to create a prototype interacting with live real-world data, the integration of the different storing systems is a problem to solve. The project is a cooperation with the gas transportation company Open Grid Europe.
