The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin, dedicated to interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics and data-driven science. Researcher / Research Software Engineer (f/m/d)
on a full-time basis (39,4 hours per week), limited until December 31th, 2025. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
The Supercomputing department performs research and development work on heterogeneous compute and storage architectures in context of high-performance computing (HPC) and data analytics (HPDA). Within the project “NAAICE - network-attached accelerators for energy-efficient heterogeneous computing” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the potential of stand-alone, network-attached FPGA accelerators is investigated to enable energy-efficiency of HPC applications. The successful applicant will contribute to the implementation of system software and selected functionality in a demonstrator application based on final design decisions to be made in the first phase of the project.
Your tasks
- Integration of network-attached accelerators (FPGA) into user workflows
- Evaluation and tuning of existing as well as implementation of new kernels for offloading selected functionality of the demonstrator software POET
- Integration, extension, and testing of existing services, middleware and resource management system (Slurm) to setup a working infrastructure for network attached accelerators
Your profile
- University degree (M.Sc. or diploma) in computer science or a related field
- Knowledge of programming FPGAs using Intel oneAPI or similar HLS toolchains
- Good practice of software development on Linux, knowledge of Linux system administration desirable
- Desirable is a basic knowledge in the use of or programming experiences with the Slurm resource management system
- Experience and fluency with software development tools (e.g., version control, especially git, build tools)
- Good communication skills in German and English
- Ability to work in a team with a strong focus on self-reliance, pro-activity, and creativity
