in the research group “Bioinformatics in Medicine” of the department Visual Data Analysis. The position is offered at the earliest possible date and will be a fixed-term contract for 2 years with the possibility of an extension.
Tasks
We are recruiting an exceptionally qualified researcher in the area of data management and analysis. Of particular interest is a specialization in machine-learning for big data, focusing on scalable, parallel/distributed and on-line algorithms using the Apache Flink framework. The topic of this position is „Analysis of very large biomedical data-sets“ with a specialization in network analysis. The application will develop and implement algorithms to enable analysis of data from biomedical collaboration partners, especially from the omics-fields.
The position is embedded into the Berlin Big Data Center (BBDC) and the applicant is expected to collaborate closely with the cooperation partners from BBDC.
Preferred skills
- Knowledge on techniques in machine-learning, which permit to handle “Big/Complex Data”, e.g. scalability, on-line algorithms running in the context of parallel and cloud architectures, graph-mining, large-scale programming (e.g. on Apache Flink).
- Experience regarding Big Data applications in science or industry
- Theoretical or practical knowledge regarding optimization algorithms Requirements
- University degree in computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics or related disciplines
- Good software development skills (Java, C++ or a comparable language)
- Experience in some or all of the following areas is essential: network analysis, statistical learning, signal processing, machine learning, distributed computing using Apache Flink
- Applicants are expected to be highly motivated, self-reliant, and able to collaborate and work with top-level scientists in biology
- Good command of written and spoken English is essential
