Research Topic

Analysis of a large set of medical image data with respect to the anatomy of the knee joint to determine the variation in shape of the knee bones and the joint space; determination of clusters of similar shapes to geometrically design a set of interpositional implants that fit a wide range of the osteoarthritic population; development of a prototype of an interactive, graphics-based 3d planning software that enables a surgeon to select a proper implant for an individual patient with gradual osteoarthritis.

Requirements

  • Master student in computer sciences or mathematics
  • Interest in application oriented research & development within the area of orthopedics
  • Interest in computational geometry and multivariate data analysis
  • Knowledge in object oriented software development and programming skills in C++

The opportunity for job training is given. The employment will be on the basis of the collective agreement for student employees (Tarifvertrag für studentische Mitarbeiter/innen) / with 60 hours per month and is initially limited to 18 months (with the option to be extended when the project will be renewed). A higher number of working hours would be possible on request.
