I am head of the Research Group Computational Anatomy and Physiology and the Modeling and Simulation of Complex Processes department of the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). I am also a member of the DFG Excellence Cluster MATH+.
Research Interests
My area of interest is scientific computing, involving numerical analysis, computer science, applications, and functional analysis. In particular I am occupied with
- finite element methods for partial differential equations
- applications in medicine
- optimal control and inverse problems
- multi-scale and multi-physics problems
- function space oriented numerics
- generic and object oriented implementations
Software
Virtually all research related to PDEs is done using the finite element toolbox Kaskade 7, which is continuously extended to cover the needs of current research.
