Description: This data set contains monthly numbers of employment in Germany in a list of about 70 industry sectors in about 120 regions (corresponding to Federal Employment Agency districts) from Jan 2008 to Sep 2021, together with a classification of agency districts in terms of population density and the labor market conditions, e.g. unemployment. The labour market regions correspond to the classification by Blien & Hirschenauer (2018).

Original Purpose: Research and policy purposes, the given aggregation level of the data and combination with the labour market region classification has been produced directly for the Thematic Einstein Semester.

Questions: In view of sustainability and related goals, we are interested in transitions also of the labour market. The concept of "transition" or "transformation" implies an idea of change. The literature provides various ways to measure change, but it is not a priori clear, how change could or should be measured in the case of labour market data and in view of potential transitions. Which ways can you think of to measure change in this data set, and which transitions would this measure indicate in the past labour market data? Do these correspond with known transitions from the literature on (regional) labour market transitions in Germany or by anecdotal evidence/common sense?
