The Master’s thesis award of the German Operations Research Society (GOR) is awarded to outstanding Diploma and Master’s theses in the field of operations research. It is traditionally presented at the society’s yearly international convention. This year, the Symposium on Operations Research took place as a joint online event of the OR societies of Switzerland (SVOR), Austria (ÖGOR), and Germany (GOR), hosted by Universität Bern.
The three Master’s thesis awards went to (in alphabetical order) to
- Patrick Klein from the Computer Science Department of TU Munich for his thesis “Charge scheduling and its influence on routing decisions for fleets of electric vehicles with time-of-use pricing, station capacity and battery degradation“ (Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Rainer Kolisch, Prof. Dr. Maximilian Schiffer)
- Berenike Masing from the Mathematics Department of TU Berlin resp. the Network Optimization Department of ZIB for her thesis “Optimal Line Planning in the Parametric City” (Supervisors: Ralf Borndörfer, Thorsten Koch, Niels Lindner)
- Jan Schwiddessen from the Economics Department of TU Dortmund for his thesis “Solution Approaches for the Single Row Facility Layout Problem based on Semidefinite Programming” (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Anja Fischer).
The award was presented by the chairman of the prize committee, Prof. Dr. Kevin Tierney (U Paderborn) and the chairman of GOR, Prof. Dr. Alf Kimms (U Duisburg-Essen).
