The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under the public law of the state of Berlin. We conduct research and development in applied mathematics and practical computer science as well as analysis and processing of complex data in conjunction with high-performance computing.
Within the research group “Bioinformatics in Medicine” of the department “Visual and Data-Centric Computing” we are looking for three

With an opportunity to start at the earliest possible date, these vacancies offered are fixed-term contracts for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension for another 3 years.
Your Project
In the DFG-funded consortium "Mathematical Research Data Initiative" (MaRDI), new and innovative strategies will be developed and established to make mathematical research data accessible and usable for the scientific community according to the so-called FAIR principles. Mathematical research data include databases for special functions or various mathematical objects, such as models and algorithms or even software tools. Together with the mathematical community, methods and tools will be developed in the individual subprojects of the consortium to implement the FAIR principles for mathematical research data.
Your Tasks
- Collaborating with the mathematical research community to facilitate a culture of reproducible data-driven research
- Applying knowledge of relevant research domains along with expert coding skills to develop industrial-grade solutions (POC, MVP, fully deployed solution) and products (platforms and frameworks)
- Developing and implementing the technical infrastructure needed to realize and integrate services for the research community
- Developing and implementing workflows for data integration and processing
- Reporting and presenting development work clearly and efficiently, both verbally and in writing
Your Profile
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related field with excellent grades
- Significant experience in collaborative software development in Java/JavaScript, Python or C/C++
- Hands-on experience with web-services and real-world data analysis
- Experience in professional or Open-Source software development is a plus
- Experience with distributed systems and HPC is a plus
- Excellent communications skills (writing, speaking) and working proficiency in English
