ZIB offers opportunities for graduate / PhD research in applied mathematics, practical computer science and in the associated multidisciplinary spectrum.
Being a graduate student at ZIB means working on challenging problems on the forefront of international research together with highly competent teams and renowned experts in the respective fields. ZIB has quite a track record regarding research prizes that have been awarded to junior scientists of ZIB with more than 20 dissertation prizes in the last 10 years. Graduate research at ZIB works in different ways: As an employee of ZIB and a member of the team working on a third party funded research project, or as a member of a Graduate School or a Research Training Group performing thesis research at ZIB.
The head scientists of ZIB hold professorships in with Berlin’s universities FU, HU and TU in cooperation with which graduate research is organized. Presently, ZIB hosts more than 25 Master students and more than 70 PhD students of which almost 30 hold scholarships from Graduate Schools or Research Training Groups as, for example, the Graduate Schools in the framework of the German excellence initiative, the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS), the School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof (SALSA), and the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT), or from the Berlin-Brandenburg research platform BB3R, the Graduate Training Centers of SFBs 760, 765, 1026, 1114, or the International Max-Planck Research School (IMPRS) Computational Biology and Scientific Computing.
