The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin. We conduct research and development in applied mathematics and practical computer science as well as analysis and processing of complex data in connection with high-performance computing.

The research group “Visual Data Analysis” is looking for a

Student Assistant (f/m/d)
for the visualization of Millennia-old folded Papyrus documents 
Reference Code: SH 04/24
(60 hrs/month)

starting as soon as possible. This offer is initially limited for a period of 18 months with a possibility of an extension.

The interdisciplinary research project entitled "Virtual Unfolding and Visualization of Folded Papyrus Packages" is concerned with the computer-aided analysis of millennia-old papyrus documents in order to make their written content visible. We are looking for support for the further development of our raycasting-based volume renderer for thin-layer structures in image data. Please have a look at our publication entitled "Thin-Volume Visualization on Curved Domains".

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master’s student in one of the subjects computer science, mathematics or physics

  • Interest in computer graphics and interdisciplinary research

  • Experience in programming with shaders (OpenGL, WebGL, others)

  • Good communication skills in German or English

 

Additionally we expect the ability to work in a team as well as a high degree of independence and commitment.

We offer

active introductory training in a small and motivated team in addition to a flexible working environment with the possibility of mobile work. The employment is based on the collective agreement for student employees with 41-80 hours/month and is limited to 18 months (with an option for extension). We will support a possible master’s thesis based on this work.
