For the ninth time, the special interest group Discrete Mathematics of the Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung has announced a prize for outstanding doctoral theses in discrete mathematics. The Richard Rado Award 2014 was given to Lutz Warnke.

Marika Karbstein received the Recognition Award for her doctoral thesis "Line Planning and Connectivity". The thesis was supported by the DFG Research Center Matheon within the framework of the project "Service Design in Public Transport". The prize was awarded on May 10 during the Symposium Discrete Mathematics in Frankfurt by juror Jiří Matoušek.
