Job description 

The goal of the BMBF-funded research laboratory MODAL SynLab (see http://www.zib.de/projects/modal-synlab) is the development and implementation of mathematical optimization algorithms for general problem classes, predominantly mixed-integer linear and nonlinear programs, and complex combinatorial structures that are motivated by real-world applications. To this end, we collaborate with partners from academia and industry, with the other MODAL labs, and with developers of state-of-the-art mixed-integer programming software. In conjunction with our own development of the SCIP Optimization Suite (look http://scip.zib.de) our group holds a high level of expertise in computational mathematical research and you can benefit from our modern software development environment and our team-oriented approach to research. 

Within this framework, you will be able to define your own research agenda and work closely with PhD students in the group towards the defined goals. The position offers a long-term perspective and you will be able to take on leadership responsibilities. 

Your profile 

  • Excellent PhD degree in mathematics, computer science or related disciplines 
  • Strong background in discrete optimization and computational mixed-integer programming 
  • Good programming skills, ideally C, C++, or related languages 
  • Good command of written and spoken English and German 
  • Creativity and a high degree of commitment to problem solving

Although the position is advertised full-time, a part-time agreement is also possible.
