The focus of this project within the DFG Cluster of Excellence MATH+ and the associated Helmholtz Excellence Network SolarMath is on simulation and optimization for optical components as key elements in the conversion of solar energy. With our project partners from Helmholtz Zentrum für Materialien und Energie Berlin (HZB) and Freie Universität Berlin we focus on renewable energy applications by joint numerical and experimental activities. The activities comprise light management in perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells and hybrid components for solar fuel generation, spectral light manipulation enabling next generation highly efficient solar energy technologies, and the development of new simulation and optimization methods for related numerical investigation. However, the research can also impact applications beyond solar energy, such as lighting and imaging in the life sciences.
