The goal of this research group is to develop methodology and practical solutions for interactive visual data analysis – focusing on image, flow, molecule and medical data. We try to develop fundamental methods on the example of concrete applications. All research projects therefore are embedded in concrete application contexts.

Our current and future focus is on feature-based interactive visualization methods for spatiotemporal and higher-dimensional data, where features are of topological, geometric or statistical character. We address time-dependent data, uncertainties in the data, data in cohort studies, ensembles of data, multi-scale characteristics and large data.

Application areas are natural sciences, engineering and environmental sciences; currenctly we are specifically dealing with applications in biophysics, neurobiology, medicine, flow dynamics and climate research.
