The Research and Competence Centre for Digitization Berlin (digiS) provides cross-sectoral advise and support for cultural heritage institutions (archives, libraries, memorials and museums, etc.) based in Berlin in the digitization of cultural assets, their online presentation and ensuring the long-term availability of digitized material and metadata. Its work focuses on consulting, knowledge transfer and IT support. digiS coordinates the "Funding Programme for the Digitization of Cultural Heritage Objects in Berlin" on behalf of the State of Berlin. In addition, digiS promotes networking and knowledge transfer between institutions with the help of its network partners.
Since the founding of digiS in 2012, the state of Berlin has done pioneering work in the state-wide coordination of digitization projects of cultural heritage institutions. They represent a broad cross-section of Berlin's cultural landscape.
